    How effective is an IUD
I have had my IUD in for about a year and a half and so far it has been very effective, however I wasn't having sexual intercourse as regularly as I am now. I am wondering how safe and effective is an IUD?

I am extremely paranoid about pregnancy and yes I know we should have used a condom as well... but it's a bit late now :(.

    Are IUD's effective?

Yes, they are quite effective. Pregnancy can happen, but it is not common. There are pros and cons to any form of birth control, including the IUD, so it is important to check each other and determine which you feel would be best for you.
By using the IUD and a condom, you would be protecting yourselves very well.

I went to my gynae yesterday and he checked my IUD and said that it hasn't shifted and everything looks normal. The guy also did not ejaculate inside me (even though I know pre ejact can make you pregnant), I have slight cramps on my tummy, the doc thinks that it is a sign that I am getting my period... Still nervous though. Help please

Are you close to when your period would be due? It could very well be from that or it could just be stomach cramps for a variety of reasons... slight digestive upset, something you ate, too much dairy, too much caffeine, etc..

The IUD is one of the more effective means of contraception, even more so than the pill.

Between that, and that he did not ejaculate, the risk of pregnancy would be minimal. If you want to increase the safety, have your partner use a condom as well.
