    Xenophobia in New Mexico
    Well sort of.

Democratic nominee Diane Denish launched an advertisement this week reminding voters that her GOP opponent, Susana Martinez, grew up in Texas -- a "Tejana," the ad says.

Martinez, 51, was born in El Paso and went to high school there. For the past 13 years, she has served as Dona Ana County district attorney in Las Cruces, in southern New Mexico about 40 miles from El Paso.

Denish was born in Hobbs, an oil patch community in southeastern New Mexico -- an area of the state called "Little Texas."

The ad features Denish's running mate, Brian Colon, saying in English: "We know that Susana Martinez is from Texas."

"Susana es una Tejana," Colon says in Spanish, and then in English: "We also know Diane Denish. She's from New Mexico and she's of New Mexico."

In northern New Mexico, being from Texas can have negative connotations because of historic conflicts over land and water, according to Maurilio Vigil, a retired political science professor and author of a book about New Mexico Hispanics.

The term taps into a "resentment toward interlopers," he said.
Ain't that a kick, the Democrat nominee attacking the Hispanic Republican for being a foreigner. Denish should be careful though, her state gets a LOT of money from us Texans...

Oh Susana . She dumped her tax payer provided security is is packing a S&W .357 stainless revolver. Denish gets $106,000 in taxpayer provided security.Easy to hurl insults behind that protection.

Diane Denish was Lt. Guv under Bill Richardson . But he was such and embarrassment she doesn't like to bring it up.
