Is it legal to copy a driv's lic, soc sec card or other government document in color?
I've been told that it's illegal to copy documents issued by the government in color. We retain copies for employment purposes and recenting purchased a color copier. My new admin asst. tells me she was instructed never to copy the driver's license or social security card in color. I had never previously heard of this.

As long as the government documents are not being copied for use, in colour, then it is not illegal.

Whoever told her that was guessing. He guessed wrong. There is no law against doing that unless it is for the purpose of fraudulently using the copies.

Agreed, no law against making color copies. It is what you use it for that makes the difference

Try to copy the driver's license and SS card in a different size other than the original. This way it is not easy to duplicate. Enlarge by at least 25% should do the job. And as for color there is no law about that.
