    Studor vent vs. vent pipe
    Applications for each? Differences? Pros/Cons?

    Hi NM...

    I think the most important distinction between the two is going to be that the regular vent is allowed by code and the studor vent isn't allowed in any code book that I know of unless approved by the local plumbing inspector or the Board of Health.

    Studor vent PROS:

    Super cheap
    Easy to install
    Easily replaced.

    Studor vent CONS:

    Illegal
    Noisy
    Mechanical parts can fail
    Odors/gasses can escape into home

    Vents PROS:

    Legal
    Maintenance free
    Increased flow of waste water

    Vents CONS:

    Can be difficult to get vent where code requires it
    Labor intensive
    Increased material cost

    It is always best to install a proper vent to all plumbing fixtures, but in some cases those studor vents come in real handy!

    Bottom line ! ANYTHING is better normal. Mechanical products can fail. A mechanical vents can fail while a regular vent has no parts to go bad. A gravity drain beats a extractor pump any day of the week. And so on. Cheers. Tom

    I sure hope you know the difference between something mechanical as against something that's not.
    Mark gave you a specific answer while I gave you a general one.

    Just goes to show how out of the loop I am. "deets"? Why not simply spell out details?
    Another thing I don't get is texting on a cell phone. Seems to me that it would be much simpler to simply talk. Besides, with my clumsy fingers it's a chore just punching in the numbers. Go figure! Cheers, Tom
