    12 volt winch /110
I have a 12 volt power winch that I use to pull a travel trailer back into a tight parking spot. It would be much easier if I could just plug it into 110 volt outlet instead of carrying a 12 car battery out to the back yard and connecting the aligator clips from the winch to it.
Is there a 110 to 12 volt converter that I can buy that the aligator clips can attach to.

You have to give us the current requirements, in Amps, for the winch.

Here are some possibilities. You have to select one with more current than the winch requires.

You may even get away with using a 12 volt battery charger plugged into 110 and clipped to 12 vdc. Not really the way to do it but it could serve in a pinch Looks like KISS meant to attach a link something like this 12 Volt Converter - Compare Prices, Reviews and Buy at NexTag - Price - Review

The winch draws 30 amps at maximum power, if that will help with determining what type of Converter to use...

I have one of these they are very handy -- they charge on 110

[Buy a Portable Jump Starter Battery Booster for $39.99

I use mine as a battery for my riding mower -- works great

Sure beats jumper cables -- very portable -- also has light

The compressor also works well. I've used it to repair a tire

That was severely deflated. It's a lot more convenient than

Finding a gas station with a working air compressor and

Feeding it quarters every few minutes. Good for bicycle tires!!

#30 amps you say, skip my thought about trying the battery charger in a pinch, won't work. Biggsie jumper would work and at a good price. I own several, they don't last forever but work great while they are fairly new, about 4 years at the most.

I may be a little dense tonight, but after looking at the ad I am not sure. Would this jumper work by pluging it into 110 volt 15amp outlet and then hooking the alligator clips directly to my 12 volt winch while still pluged in. I am a little confused as it seems that it provides power to jump start a car or inflate a tire without being pluged in!! What am I not getting?

Here is one with better specs. Meaning readable. Car Battery Booster Cable : Jumpstart AJ-01 with air compressor

Says 15 AMP outlet which won't cut it.

They basically contain a battery, charger and air compressor. It's possible that through the clips it is unfused, in which case it shows promise.

It may not operate the winch for very long. Bet it contains a 20 amp hour battery, so you might get 30-45 minutes out of it before you have to recharge.

EDIT: The specs on the above unit says 17 amp hours.

I am beginning to think that the best way to handle this is to just buy a new deep cycle battery, put it in a little cart, keep it charged and roll it outside when I need to power the winch. Any more comments always appreciated, and thanks for everyone's help...

Actually Oldbe I'd go with Biggsie's portable jumper for $39. It is designed to be recahrged and then disconnected from 110 to become 100% portable, good for several years. A deep cycle battery may run $60-80, is much heavier and it too must be periodically charged. I have several of these jumpers, some with lights, some with a compressor.
