    Can you sue the police department for false information?
    The police department told my family and the news paper that I was wanted for murder yet they never had a warrant I never committed murder

    Ah, but were you a suspect? Did they want to "bring you in for questioning"? If so, to say that you were "wanted" may have been technically true.

    Whether you have a case for defamation depends upon a lot more things than you have as yet shared.
