He's going to take the car to the house. And he's going to try to make hubby die so he can get the money. But he's not going to blow him up nor smack into him.
Hmm.
I can't say I'm well versed in the ways of killing people.
Is he going to get hubby inside the car somehow?
And what you you doing up, young lady? You had the flu and you're supposed to be resting. And it's too early for your 'waking up later' thing.

Hmm.
I can't say I'm well versed in the ways of killing people. You don't need to know the ways of killing people to solve the puzzle. Look at the question again.

It's only 9:30 here. :) Plus, I know you are getting really close to solving this. ;)

[QUOTE=Just Looking;2542335] Hmm... I always thought you disappeared before this and then came back in what would be about a half hour or so from now. I guess I'm crazy.
EDIT: Er, I meant "before the time of my last post," cause it's like 2 hours later now.
Plus, I know you are getting really close to solving this. ;)
If you say so. Sure, I've got the gist, but not getting that detail. Maybe Unky'll be along too. Maybe just the right question from him...
Is he going to try to kill hubby while he (Ned) is in the car?
Is he going to leave the car at the house?

Does Ned want hubby to be in a used car that he previously manipulated to that it occurs as an accident?
Does Ned expect to convince hubby to try a car?
Then try to kill him?
While still making it seem like an accident?
I'm thinking he can't risk killing hubby carelessly, or he'll be in jail and some other person will get the heritage...

Yea! Unky's here. Cause I'm running out of steam on questions. Got the main gist, but there's that nagging little detail about how the "kill" is going to happen. (By the way, I doubt it'll hurt for you to read the spoilers of my incorrect answer, since nearly everything of it has been solved anyway.)
Since J-Lo is perhaps sleeping better tonight, I will point out that he's not trying to get hubby to try the car - already asked. I also suspect that how easily he might get caught might not be relevant. When did the people in these scenarios make any sense anyway. :)
(I might check in one more time, but I'm making an attempt to hit the sack a bit earlier. I've already got it solved except for this detail. So we'll see what happens by time I get back up.)
I DO expect credit for solving the rest though. :p

Ned wants someone irrelevant to drive the car with him. He then will manage to run hubby over with the buyer (who's driving). He has tweaked the car before, so this will appear as an accident.
I keep thinking that he will try to stay out of suspicion...
I only read the one JLo said afterwards and I have some idea of what you said. Anyway, okay, I'll read back.

Not bad. Except it doesn't explain taking the car to the house.
I kept thinking he was going to cut a brake line or something of the sort, but still doesn't explain him taking it to the house. That's stumping me.

4 pages of 20 posts for me, that makes like the same as theirs and if we don't find it quick
Ok, I keep missing some details...
Something riduculous, but who knows...
He plans to take the car to their house. At night, Ned would switch on the engine and let carbon monoxide fill the house so that hubby will die. I'm assuming though that sis is at the hospital... or that Ned is killing his sis too... one rock, two hits.

LOL. I'm all for it.
But I'm done for the night and need to be in bed. Guess I'll see later how it all faired out.

I actually slept thru the night - sounds like a baby, finally sleeping thru the night. My mom would have been so proud. :o

I'm thinking he can't risk killing hubby carelessly, or he'll be in jail and some other person will get the heritage... Now you are thinking on the right track - the final part of this puzzle is his motivation for taking the job only.

Since J-Lo is perhaps sleeping better tonight Yes!, I will point out that he's not trying to get hubby to try the car - already asked. I also suspect that how easily he might get caught might not be relevant. When did the people in these scenarios make any sense anyway. :) Actually it is relevant. This was based on a TV show, so is slightly more realistic.

Ok, I keep missing some details... Not really - it's simpler than where you guys are headed.
Something riduculous, but who knows...
He plans to take the car to their house. At night, Ned would switch on the engine and let carbon monoxide fill the house so that hubby will die. I'm assuming though that sis is at the hospital... or that Ned is killing his sis too... one rock, two hits. No - the actual method of death is not mentioned. I accidently hit "agree" rather than quote. I keep doing that.
Yep. You guys are going to stone me. I feel like really this puzzle is over. Unky basically got the final touch by saying "I'm thinking he can't risk killing hubby carelessly, or he'll be in jail and some other person will get the heritage..." and "I keep thinking that he will try to stay out of suspicion... "
This is the official solution. The nagging detail was just that he wanted to use a different car so if he was seen no one would know it was him. It really would have been better if the type of murder was included, but I'm thinking Ned wasn't all that bright and hadn't figured that out yet.
Ned's sister is very rich but Ned is not. She once told him her will left half her fortune to her husband & half to Ned. When he learned that she was dying, he decided to double his inheritance by killing the husband before her death. He became a used car salesman to have access to cars that were not recognizably his & hence would not be recognized when he went to murder the husband. He would also be more likely to be identified on the street if he were on foot. This puzzle is adapted from a TV show.

Okay, that was a silly solution.
I could have come up with something more imaginative than THAT!

I bet you could have - really all they needed was an interesting murder.
Maybe you should write for TV.
Ooh, I have an idea. You should turn one of your creative ideas into a lateral puzzle for us.

Oh god no.
I have a few good lateral puzzles that I know. The problem is that my ability to participate on AMHD is very sporadic lately, and I need to keep up with my moderator stuff first before playing--so if I posted a puzzle, I wouldn't be able to respond to questions in a timely manner.
I've been playing these since I was 13 and a teacher introduced us to them. It was our Friday game. She'd give us the puzzle on Wednesday, and we would write down questions to turn in Thursday. On Friday, she'd have the questions and answers on the board, and we'd solve the puzzle before doing any other classwork. Changed how I think about a lot of things, and really made it easier to "think outside the box". I've talked to others from that class throughout the years, and most of us have retained that ability to change perspective and see the puzzle from a different way.
Best thing about the whole thing? It was a MATH class. :)

I always liked teachers who could come up with creative ideas like that. I remember three in particular - one was a psychology teacher and the other two were math teachers. I always loved math anyway, but these two teachers were really special.
Synnen - I understand about your duties. From December through April 15, I work really long hours and barely have time to play. This is my slow season, though.
Unky - I do think you got it. It may not have been the exact wording, but the thought was still there. :)

I would do that if no one else wants to. I like giving Morgaine a chance to play since she's done so many of these. I'm only here for one more week, and then gone for the rest of the month to get married and go on our honeymoon. My mind is not exactly on work. :o

No thanks. I don't know how much time I'll be able to keep up here. 2 weeks before the big exams and I feel like I have a lot to do :( I'll have to practice my physics and try to get used to my forgotten formulae.

And yet another lateral thinking puzzle

Deep in the forest was found the body of a man who was wearing only swimming trunks, snorkel and facemask. The nearest lake was 8 miles away and the sea was 100 miles away. How had he died?
I'm new at this, so we'll see how it goes. I think it is a lot easier than Morgaine's train puzzle :)
