My children and I have recently moved into an older model apartment and have a standing wall heater that was working but the pilot seems to have gone out. My problem is I cannot tell where the pilot is. It is a white rodgers 36c53u valve. Please help its cold in here and the gas dept can't come until Tuesday.

The pilot is very near the bottom of the heater. If you see a small aluminum pipe going up into the heater the pilot will be on the end of it. There may be a small opening at the bottom of the heater that will open up and you can see the pilot at the end of the little tube I mentioned. Try to find the instructions for lighting the heater, they should be posted somewhere at the bottom of the heater near the gas valve. Lighting should involve lighting the pilot and after it is lit holding down a button for a minute that it tells you to compress. Most of the time in lighting the pilot you have to lay on the floor to see what you are doing, after you get the pilot lit move your face away from the heater before you let up on the button because there could be a little flash back as the heater lights. A couple more details you may need if you didn't find the instructions. Don't know about the W-R, but the more common Robert Shaw ones have a knob on top with off, pilot, and ON. You have to turn the knob from on to pilot. Then push the button in and hold it while you light the pilot. Once the pilot stays lit, then turn the knob to on. Some of the newer ones have a button you push to make a spark to light the pilot.
