Not a good thing to do, swallowing toothpaste, although a minuscule amount goes down when brushing teeth. The warnings are swallowing A GREAT AMOUNT OF TOOTHPASTE, then it becomes harmful, causing intestinal blockages, loose bowels, etc. Truth be told there are many harmful chemicals in some toothpaste, especially the ones that claim whitening capabilities, but you have to use your common sense and realize, it has to go in your mouth anyway, gets mixed in with your saliva and a diluted bit goes down your throat.Dont panic, drink some milk immediately if you are worried it may harm you.

If your child picks up the toothpaste and pumps the whole tube in its mouth, then you worry, then you call an ambulance. Then its critical time.
