    Cigarette breaks
If I had 6 employees and they all took a 5 min paid cigarette break twice a day for a 5 day work week. And they each made 8.00 an hr. How much money would I be losing a yr?

First you need to know how many hours each employee works in a day times the hourly rate to get the daily rate for each employee, then you need to divide that number by the total number of minutes (60 times number of hours) to get the minute rate per each employee. Next subtract 10 minutes from the total minutes times your minute rate per employee. Now you have the total minutes pay and the minutes worked pay and the difference is the lost minutes wages per day per employee. From this number you can calculate the yearly wage for all employees by taking lost minutes wages times number of employees times 5 to get the weekly lost wages times 52 weeks to get the total lost wages.

Then of course you have to consider if you are really "losing" money, since often breaks allow a worker to come back refreshed. And since it is also often considered in the factor of overhead for breaks and even fatigue, it is not really lost time and money
