I am in the witness protection program I relocated to another state after witnessing a murder. I have not had much assistance from the state. Do I need a lawyer

What do you think you're entitled to? If somebody promised you stuff, they're the ones to talk to. Hiring a lawyer will probably disqualify you from the program..

Yes, not sure what you thought was going to happen,

First was this a state program or the federal program,
They do work different.

In most cases, they merely move you to another place, at normally help with a new ID and sometimes but not always help with a first job.

You are not supported ( sometimes at all) other times only for a short time, and almost never after you testify, normally after you testify, bye bye, they go away and you are on your own.

If you were promised something, hope you got it in writing,
But you contact the case worker ( manager, handler) that arranged your move.

And of course you are free to just move back under your own name anytime, ( a lot of people do that after a point)

The amount of help you get often depends on the level of the criminal, if this was merely a low level person who killed someone, you were lucky to even get into the program, and don't except a lot from it.
