Pregnant within 2 months of giving birth?
I gave birth to my daughter on April 30 of this year. My husband and I waited 5 weeks before we had sex again due wanting to heal properly. At that point we started using condoms since birth control pills messed up my hormones too much last time and we had a difficult time getting pregnant. But we stopped using condoms after a couple times since he complained it that it was too uncomftable, so we used the pull out method instead (sorry if it's TMI). I did have a month after giving birth, but none since then.

Now I am wondering if I am pregnant. It wouldn't be a horrible thing if I were, since we were going to start trying this christmas again anyway, but I'm just not sure. Problem is that last time we didn't find out until I was 5 months pregnant because my hormone levels were just too low to be detected. I had several urine and blood tests done during my last pregnancy, and nothing showed positive until 5 months. Even though I was at my doctors at least twice a week and did several at home during those first months.
Obviously I am going to go out and take a test, but I doubt that I will show positive right away, since I didn't last time either.

Question then: what are my chances of being pregnant after giving birth if we started having sex 5 weeks after? And even though I was breast feeding?

In all honesty. We can't tell you what your chances are because it varies so much between couples. As your aware the method your using isn't as reliable as many hope for. Also with breast feeding it adds to the equation. So its difficult to give you what odds could be. But with what you have been doing it is possible for sure.

If you are breastfeeding, that in itself can cause you to not have periods for awhile. Are you exclusively breastfeeding?

Exclusive breastfeeding, no formula supplements at all, is a pretty successful form of birth control, but as with any form, it is not 100%. Especially if you do supplement now and then or baby starts to skip feeds.

As califdad said, the withdrawal method is not the most reliable. The breastfeeding will reduce your odds even more, but of course, pregnancy will always be a possibility when you have sex.

Unfortunately it's very possible... Just ask my son and his wife. LOL... their two children will be the same age for 18 days a year.

Now, take the test as has been suggested, if it comes out negative have the blood test done. If that comes negative, you can always ask the doctor for a transvaginal ultrasound to determine pregnancy.

It is of the utmost importance that you get very good care early on if you are pregnant. There are a certain number of risks associated with having pregnancies so close together.
