    Warrants Backlog
I wanted to share this article I just read that I felt was a major community problem in Prince George's County, Maryland.

Last month there was a death of a teenage girl by her ex-boyfried because of an arrest warrant that had been misfiled.

Warrant service was already a top election issue for sheriff candidates. Since July 31, there were 47,589 open warrants. Also, 30,000 are expected to add to this list this year.

I find this very alarming and would like to get your thoughts on this. This is definitely a major social problem within prince george's county. I just feel like the current programs are not addressing this issue effectively. What do you think? The sheriff Michael A. Jackson is responsible for addressing these issues and he is running for county executive this year. This is not the first time he has been behind corrupt events going on.

I am going to post up the link to this and another article in a couple of hours from now but wanted to let you know I read this in the Prince George's CoUNTY gAZETTE GPR tHURSDAY sEPT 2.. SORRY HAVE TO CATCH THE TRAIN..

Please share your thoughts on this.. I enjoy readingn them.. :)

I know the crime problems of PG County all too well. I will agree they are not aggressively pursueing crime and the criminals aggressively enough. Don't these people ever get stopped for traffic violations... aren't they suspending the licenses of people with outstanding warrants.

Hell, in Fairfax County VA, if I get pulled over for anything they run a check for outstanding warrants. And if you have even one... you get handcuffed and hauled away on the spot.

Thanks for sharing this with me. It is unconsciousable and the sheriff Jackson won't get elected for county exec. Because that is just insane. Did you know he was behind the investigation of the mayor's home his police raided in Brewyn Heights back in 2008. They shot and killed his lab who was only a puppy. The dog was just trying to run down the basement and get away from them when they knocked his door down. They had thought he was trafficking drugs because both him and his wife would get boxes sent to their house almost daily.. they were just buying little things from e-bay. It's just upsetting and scary and the only words that come to mind are just corruption.

I am going to put the link up for the gazette sight in prince george's county.. I did a search for this article, "Teen's Killing puts spotlight on warrant backlog" for Thursday 9/2/2010 but came up with no results. It's my first time using the site but I thought I would be able to look up an issue just a few days old in the local paper?

I thought there would be more responses because this is a controversial and hot issue. Looking forward to hearing from the rest, especially tomder55 and excon.. who write with such expertise and knowledge on political issues that I have read.. :)

    Hello Amy:

I don't know WHAT is distracting your cops from DOING their job. Maybe it's arresting pot smokers... They're easy. They don't have guns. Arresting the really BAD guys is dangerous...

Looks like a typical bureaucratic snafu. Most of those go unnoticed until it tragically comes back to rear it's ugly head.
The warrant was stashed into a pile of misdemeanors that were not given priority.
Because the result was the murder of LaCole Hines, it has garnered the attention of the Washington Compost.
A deadly mistake in Prince George's
But bureaucratic snafu's that affect all types of people occure all the time . The bigger the government ,the more it happens and the more people are negatively impacted .
When you hear stories like this ,or of people waiting in excess of a year for applications of Medicaid etc. you wonder how anyone can advocate increasing the size and complexity of governments.
It is a systemic problem in this sheriff's office ,and an even bigger systemic problem nationwide at all levels of governance.

The sheriffs office will of course scape goat the person who did the misfiling and will go through the motions changing the procedures.
