I have just received the petition for divorce from my wife all the paperwork appears in order but I remain a little confused of question 7 which asks "even if you do not intend to defend the case do you object to paying the cost of the proceedings?"... On the petition under costs there are XXXXXXXXXXXX and no figures. My (soon to be ex) wife is on benefits and the divorce is going ahead under the two year rule... what is the answer to the question seeing as all her costs are covered?

What it means is do you want to pay for the divorce yourself. If that is what you want then go for it. So you would be paying for her lawyer and everything.

Careful here. If the wording is as posted then saying no means they don't object to paying. So your answer depends on how it exactly reads.

If this is how the question is exactly:
"even if you do not intend to defend the case do you object to paying the cost of the proceedings?"

Then the answer would be "yes". You do object to paying for it all.

So be careful and read very carefully. If you don't understand the question seek out a lawyer in your area to explain it to you.

In this case a simple yes or no may not be adequate (sp) enough. If you do not intend to pay I would also state that further; that you do not intend to pay.

Correct, in fact the reply should be a statement of exactly what costs you will or will not pay, you can reply that the other party should pay all costs or that you will pay 1/2 or what ever you wish, a simple yes or no is never correct in cases like this.
