My daughter listens and understands most commands but cannot speak.
My daughter aged2 years and 10 months can not speak but hears .she understands small commands like no, shut the door. But when she need something she points towards things like if she wants water she 'll point toward glass or water bottle and after getting it she 'll laugh.when I try to make her repeat words she just blink her eyes and don't try to repeat.she knows her name.when someone calls from back she turns.Doctors says that you should go to peads physicologist. In my city there is no such person, She can differentiate between sounds .she enjoys music. She doesn't like scolding .

I would bring her to a doctor if possible. My cousin did not speak until she was four years old. She would point and gesture and would look if you said her name or spoke to her, but she would not speak back. Doctors could not tell her parents if anything was wrong and they sent her home. Shortly after her 4th birthday, she started to talk and has not stopped since :) she is 23 and has no speech problems of any kind. Good luck in whatever happens

How about if you don't give her what she points to until she actually says the word? Sure, she's going to throw a temper tantrum or two, but she's using you.

She doesn't need to talk if you are going to give her everything just by pointing and/or grunting.

Don't give into her points and any whining she does. Shrug your shoulders and say clearly "What do you want?" Do not give it to her until she makes some sort of noise for it. It's what we're doing with my baby cousin at the moment. It's working. :)

Have you looked into finding a child speech therapist in your area? It may be a speech problem. A speech therapist would have the knowledge and experience to better diagnose and treat such a problem than a psychologist or pediatrician.

Try singing your words to her. It doesn't have to be a real song -- just make your own musical sounds and sing all your words. Maybe she will sing back to you -- or with you. (Act like this is a fun thing to do.)
