I have a 1999 Toyota Camry and its currently equipped with Amber and White emergency lights. I asked 3 police officers and they said that it was legal, but when asked on the internet I got the state stature and something about nonstandard lighting . I just want to know if these are legal. Im not using them to play cop or anything. Im just using them for Emergencies (such as a crash or breakdown). Please let me know!

You have to be VERY careful with extra lighting... what one state autherizes for Volunteer Firemen an adjoining state may use for police. But in any casenot only does it have to comply with Oregons requirements( you live in Oregon) it also has to comply with every other state you may travel in. For permanently attached lighting this is critical. You can't simply remove them when you leave the state.

I'd say if the local cops (state police?) are OK with it, then do it. However, I trust what a state inspector says more. They have the handbook right in front of them.
Don't hurt to ask.

I'd go with what the state inspector says... they will be more familiar with the nuances of the code than any particular regular trooper will.

Are these lights mounted on top of the vehicle or are you talking about lights mounted in the grill or where the tail lights should be? Your Camry came standard with emergency flashers activated by the button on your dashright near the radio, right?

I actually have to 4 22 LED panels, 2 in front and two in the back. Then in the front I have a small console on the window with 18 LED and in the back there are 9 LEDs o one side and 9 on the other. These are all interior lights that are controlled with switches in the front. They do flash like cop lights (Strobe) but they are not blue nor red. Just white and amber. I used those colors for hazard just like my standards on the car.

Part of the issue is the use of a lot of extra lights,
1. each state has rules as to use of warning type lights
2. most have rules about flashing or rotating lights.

Next some cities and some states will have rules about lights that would distract other drivers. So if your lights in the opinion of a officer would distract drivers to an unsafe condition, they may issue a warning or ticket

So a lot of this will be when will you be using them, if you are driving down the road with them all on, most likely you will draw tickets for all sorts of various reasons. Remember if they officer can't write for the lights, they may well find many other things they could.

If you are using them only for car shows and sitting, that will be another thing
