What should I do about this situation?
    Hi,
My name is Katrina, and I would your like your advice on what to do with this child.

Ok, he is 14 years old, and had ADHD is now taking meds for it, and has been since he was about 6 or 7 years old. My concern is all the odd things he does. Also what the reasoning behind them could be, and what it could lead to in the future. I will just make a list of the things, and explain them along the way.

    1. He is abusive to animals.

*He has took golf clubs and instead of using golf balls he used innocent frogs, and killed them.

    * He has attempted to shove a thermometer up a dog's rear.

*He has taken duck tape, and put it on the dog's fur, and enjoyed pulled it off many times.
Including on the dog's stomach, where the skin is very sensitive, and the genitals are.

*He has choked animals before, and gotten entertainment out of it.
*He has taken flies, and enjoyed pulled their wings out of their bodies. Also the same with other insects.
*He always grabs the dog just by it's arms, and will not understand when you tell him that is hurting the dog.
*He has this thing where he pulls on the male dogs genital and pulls the pink part out, which really strikes me as odd.
*Also stroking the dog's genital, so it will get a erection honestly I don't know why but you.
    * He is always commenting on animals genitals, at least males anyway.
    * He attempted to put a rock down the dog's throat, and when asked why he would do that his response was I wanted to see if it fit.
    * He is always too rough with the dog.
    * He is abusive to animals, by throwing them around, punching, choking, throwing them into things, etc.
    * He has put the dog in very high places, knowing the animal is scared, and may fall and die.

    2. He also has very odd hygiene habits.

    * He is always picking dandruff out of his head, and he saves it all in a ziploc bag. He also picks the dandruff out of the dog's fur too.
    * He has to always pick at his skin, and face.
    * He picks at scab, then eats them.
    * He used to have athletes feet, and would pick whatever was on them and eat it.
    * He always has to clean the dirt out from underneath the dog's paws.
    * He always chews on his shirt collars, and chews off the front part of them within three days at max of just getting them.
    * He has no modesty when exiting the bathroom after a shower, (other than him there are 2 women in the household) and doesn't care if he stands in the living room in front of everyone nude.

    3. He spends at least 6 hrs a day, on the computer a day, he would be on it 24/7 if you let him. He is known for getting up in the middle of the night, and getting on too. If you ask him to go somewhere (waterpark, out to eat, movie, etc), he won't come with because he would rather sit on the computer.

    4. He has taken all the knives, any steak knives etc, and takes them outside, and chops things up in the yard, throws them at things, and throws them at trees. He also has taken many of them, and used the lawn mower blade sharpener on them.

    5. When he is off the computer, he is either harassing the dog, being annoying nuisance to everyone else, or getting into things in the garage and doing complete destruction to everything. He is destructive to things in his room etc.

Well, I think that is it. Please let me know ASAP.

    Thank You!

Your 17, this child is not your responsibility.

I'm sure his parents are aware of his activities as are his doctor/teachers.

My advice on what you should do is, if his parents are unaware of some of his activities make them aware of it.

Seeking professional help for severe emotional/behavioral problems is the beginning of recovery. A psychiatrist would have the skills necessary to evaluate your son. When dealing with the human mind it would be presumptuous to make an assessment of his condition by a list of actions. Finding the root of the problem takes communication, skill, and time.

Correction: Not your son, "the child", as redhed35 said.

How do we know the OP isn't the mother? What is the relationship between her and the child?

    Sorry, I'm missing something here.

I looked through the op's other threads, and found she is 17,18 next month.

I don't know what the relationship is between the two.

    Waiting on more information.

He for sure needs some professional help. It is easy to speculate what can be going on, but he is a path that can be harmful to himself and others. He needs to be evaluated by a professional so they can ask appropriate follow up questions. If your parents do not follow through, maybe talking to a counselor at his school. You can tell his doctor, nurse, counselor, school staff/teacher, and see if they can talk to your parents. I don't know what others think, but I do feel this needs to be addressed and evaluated.

There are many complications within Attentional Deficit Hyperactive Disorder that add to the 'whole' diagnosis and if you knew enough to say he has this, then possibly you know he has been diagnosed. His doctor could be more diligent in his treatment and if he has been on the same meds for 7 years or so then they are not working properly. ADHD never goes away but can be controlled with proper meds to give him at least a good quality of life and as you describe, he does not have this now.

This young person is a danger to himself and others and you should have your parents seek alternative professional help for him. From what you describe, if all these symptoms are true, then it sounds like he should be diagnosed in a facility that administers to people this dangerous.
