I rent and working in CT, but own home in TX
I now rent and work in CT (temporarily), but own my home in TX (renting it out but pay all property and municipal taxes). Am I a TX or CT resident? I almost see the CT home like an extended hotel. I don't have intent to live here, but job travel was too much (flew every week to NYC for over 3 years).
So I am assuming I need to change my payroll to reflect CT income or am I technically still a Texan?

Please define what you mean by "temporary." If your job assignment in CT is expected to last less than 1 year, you can remain a TX resident. But it sounds like you have already been in this job for 3 years - is it safe to say that you have no clear plans to work someplace other than CT? If so, you should indeed update the records to show that you are a CT resident.
I know you didn't ask specifically about taxes, but to be clear about your situation - your employer should have been withhlding CT income taxes from your wages for the past three years, and I presume you have been filing with CT as a non-resident worker - is that right? The only change needed going forward is to file in CT as a resident rather than non-resident.

Herein lies the issue. My home office was in TX for three years and as a consultant I can work anywhere in the world at any time. We are just assigned accounts to service. I was assigned various financial accounts, hence the constant travel to NY/CT/NJ/Charlotte/Ohio... and living in a Marriott.
So because 75% of my time is spent up in Northeast and the travel was impeding on family life I decided to rent a home in CT and subsequently rent my home in TX as I cannot afford two house payments. Corporate HQ is in TX. So, I don' think I quite qualified to have CT or NY taxes taken out as my home, residence and home office was designated as TX.
But now... as I have a semi-permanent home (legal mailing address) it appears I am compelled to change my home office to CT and thus pay CT income tax. But, I still have a legal home in TX where I pay my mortgage and taxes, so I am assuming I need establish CT residence as I am renting my TX residence? Thanks for the response.
