I am 17 and I am dating a 14 year old. What I want to know is. Is it illegal?
Both of our parents are OK with us dating, and we aren't having sex or plan to anytime soon. I'm just wondering because a friend of mine keeps making the comment that the fact that we are dating makes me a pedophile.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with what you are doing. In fact, it is very healthy that you are interacting with the opposite sex at an early age, and are smart enough to refraim from intimacy. These are the best yearsof your life, so enjoy them. In fact, it is a good idea to not get too serious about one person, and play the field a little bit. Tell your friend to look up the word pedophile and he/she will see that it is nothing to do with a couple of kids spending time together. I assume you are the male in this relationship, but if you are the female, then I would say that a 14 year old may be a little too young. Either way, and most important, just have fun, but do not get too serious.

So long as your not having sex or whatever your state considers sex, you're in the clear.

Your buddy is just saying that 'cause there's a pretty significant age difference between you two.

If you give this relationship just a little time it may last a lifetime. And you will find yourself having to register as a sexual offender.

    Sounds like fun huh?

You are soon to enter the world of a pedophile. For a lifetime. When you turn 18 and if this girl is still around your in for the full force of the law.

If you think that is cute then just keep this relationship going. It's a class C felony. And once convicted you don't just add something to your name. You lose rights. Not just one but many as well as job opportunities.

    Still think its worth it?

You better stop now while your ahead.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, when I say interacting I mean talking, having an icecream together, going to a movie,ETC. I in no waY mean that is is OK to engage in any activity thaT WOULD LEAD TO SOME SORT OF INTIMACY. That means no physical contact of any kind. You kids are too young. And it is never a good idea for someone 18 or over to date a minor, so the best thing is to spend time with people your own age.

You are putting yourself in a very perilous situation parental consent or not.
When you turn 18 and she may happen to get angry with you all she has to do is SAY you were inappropriate (which encompasses a wide field) and the excrement will hit the fan.

And if it comes down to her word against yours in court, you could be in big trouble.

You are putting much on the line here.
Is risking your future worth dating a 14 yr old?
