    Follow the install instructions

    If the wiring are as they should be
    Its red to r
    Green to g
    White to w
    Yellow to y
    Orange to o

    It would help to know the tstat brand and model number, and any other info you could provide
    Brand and model of heatpump,name and model of furnace/airhandler

    For one, you need to know the # of stages of heating and cooling and whether aux/em heat is used.

    If this is a replacement thermostat then tell us what the connected terminals are. We can then advise what characteristics you need in a stat.
