Outdoor AC unit fan cuts off. Motor or Capcitor?
My outdoor a/c fan cuts off when it gets hot. The air was not working well and I went outside and the unit was hot to the touch. I took off the top portion and inspected the fan which was not binding etc... When I tried the unit again the fan worked fine. Now it quit working again. I think the problem is when it gets hot. Is this the fan motor or the capacitor?

With not being there,, I would say replace the capicitor, its much cheaper than replacing a motor and not needed,, then go from there

WMP, Thanks again for the help. I replaced the Capacitor (only $25.00) but it turned out to be both the capacitor AND the fan motor. Fan motor was $78.00, so I had just over $100.00 into it and its working great. It was a real challenge finding a place that would actually sell the parts to an individual vice a contractor. Can't imagine what it would have cost if I had an a/c company come here (D.C. area).
