Does the pilot light have to stay lit on the majestic gas fire place over the summer?
The pilot light is on and it is in the upper 90's. The glass is radiating heat. Does the pilot light need to be kept on over the summer?

If this was put in by ANY professional there would be a gas shut-off somewhere in the line.

Search the entire gas line from the unit to the connection to the main lines. If there is no shut-off,you will need one installed.A simple in-line shut-off will do.

There is a "key" sticking out of the floor and a skytech remote control. When I press the "off" button on the remote the red light on the remote comes on, but nothing happens to the pilot lite. When we bought the house recently we were told to never touch the "key". Do we need to turn the "key" to turn off the pilot lite?

    Yes,exactly.

    Turning the key off will:

    1) turn off the gas flow to the fireplace

    2) Allow you to test if the shut-off actually works!

If you ever needed to change or maintain the fireplace you need to know if the system is working.

Turn the key 90 degrees and watch the pilot light,it should turn off,it not, continue until it does,90 degrees at a time.

Unless the shutoff is stripped,it should shut off all gas to the fireplace.

Perhaps even lighting the system up and then shutting off the gas at the key would be best, that way you will know 100% that all the gas is gone from the line.

In the future,do this every late fall, early spring, just to make sure the system is operating correctly.
