Oven/grill fire in rented property what happens now
My partner stay in rented accommodation and the over/grill went on fire, by chance he was quick to stop it and there was minimum damage. The cooker needs replaced and there is damage to the worktop, the landlord is refusing to fix this. It has come to our attention that there should be a fire alarm fitted to the property which there isn't and if he had been upstairs there would have been more damage. The land lord does not have landlord insurance either, I thought this was a legal requirement.

Has anyone came across this before?

The landlord has removed the oven so we can not get an independent technician to check the oven for any faults.

    Any help is appreciated

Unless there are local laws, no he is not required to have property insurance on his home. Most mortgage companies will require it , if there is a loan on the property.
Most likely he has it, *** unless this is a slum type property.
Just does not want you filing a claim.

You need to send him a written letter that the damage needs to be fixed. If he does not, your options are to have it fixed and sue him for the damages. Or move and fight him if he sues you over the move.
