    What if I settled with a debt collector and cannot pay
    I had a notice of appearance by a debt collector and signed a paper that I would pay the and now I don't have the money

    Then they are going to hound you and take it from you any way they can. Since you agreed to a judgement / settlement. If you dishonor it they can come after you with full force.
