    Squatters rights in nj
    A friend of mine moved out of his house in New Jersey. He could not sell it in time before he moved out of state. He asked me to live in it and take care of the house,pay electric heat ,phone etc. maintain outside and inside so I have done as he asked ,I don't hear from him or his family much. A year or so ago the old bank ( there was a buy out of one bank and the new is who is now looking for the property owners) said the house was is foreclosure , they were still trying to sell the house but there is a well issue making it very difficult. The new bank said someone was paying the taxes but not the mortgage. I don't know what to do ,What are my rites if any I have been in theis house for @ 5 years?

    Sorry, biut there is no such thing as "squatter's rights." If your friend has not been paying the mortgage, then the bank has the right to foreclose. One option for you is to buy the house yourself. Otherwise you should plan on being evicted.

    As ebaines said, there are no longer such things as squatters rights. You have been living, basically, rent free for 5 years. At the most, once it is foreclosed, you will have 90 days to vacate.
