How much time can I take off work
I've been working full time at a doggy day care for about a year and only recently took a two weeks medical leave to have my tonsils removed. At the end of the two weeks my boss closed shop for a week so she and everyone could take vacation (employees couldn't work without her supervision) which is fair but she's including that last week as a week that I requested off so to her I had requested a total of 3 weeks off work. A while later I had to call in sick due to food poisoning and came back with her giving me a termination warning due to taking too many days off, a total of 22 days, which was bad for her business.
As it's summer I felt that I needed an actual vacation without being stuck in bed, so I requested 6 days off. My request was approved but not without lecture. She said that people who usually work full time are only allowed 2 weeks off for vacation and I have asked for 4.
I am not being paid while on medical leave or vacation and I've followed her rules by asking time off in 3 weeks advanced as she requested.
I understand that it's a lot of time off but most of it was due to being sick. Is this fair of her?

    Yes.

Was it her fault that you were sick? No.

You felt that you needed an actual vacation? Poor you.

    Did she fire you? No.

    Is life fair? No.

Yes, after working somewhere only one year, many people first have NO time, others get one week, some may only get two.

I know almost no one that gets 3 and certainly not 4. weeks off after only one year.

You got sick on her time and you "need" a vacation? What part of that is not making sense? You are not entitled to a vacation above and beyond you taking 2 weeks to "be sick" and have your tonsils out. Your medical emergency is not your employer's emergency.

She is correct. You are in the wrong.

Be happy you still have a job as most employers won't put up with all that time off - 4 weeks is a bit much.

Thanks for the answers. Seems everyone here is in agreement here. I've had people tell me one thing or another here at home about it and wanted to know what was right.
