    But then, something else bug me... numbers such as 6 too have odd number of factors then, 1, 2 and 3. So, there are other numbers, besides perfect squares with an odd number of factors, right?

    I could list many more :p (10, 14, 15, 21, 22, 26, etc)
    But I think once you reach the triple digits, you're limited to just perfect squares.

    You think so? ;)

    How about... 414?

    418 = 2 x 209 x 1

    And I could go on. This happens every time you multiply a prime number by another prime number. You get the factors as one prime number, the other prime number and 1. Well, this can get into an odd number of different prime numbers being multiplied together... (eg 11x13x17x19x1 I better not work out the product :o)

    Sorry for hi-jacking the thread :o

    Oops, that's why math has never been a love of mine. I'm good at it, but I simply follow the easiest path to get to the answer and don't bother putting in more work than that.

    Maybe I'm looking a little too far too... :(

    I'm just trying to find some shortcuts.

    For example, we know that if the last digit in a number is divisible by 2, then no matter what the number is, it'll be divisible by 2.
    We know that if adding all the digits in a number comes to a number divisible by 3, then, the number is divisible by 3.
    For 4, we look whether the two last digits are divisible by 4.
    For 5, once the last digit is either 0 or 5, it's divisible by 5.
    For 9, once the digits adds up to a number divisible by 9, it's divisible by 9.
    For 10, 100, etc, so long there are enough zeros, they are divisible.
    For 25, so long the last two digits are 00, 25, 50 or 75, they are divisible by 25.

    That's all I know about how to check for factors... :(

    Afraid I'm going out shortly Unky, then off early tomorrow for a trip to see son and help him move. My legs are still like bambi's from the flu so I'm going to be pulling on all my reserves for the rest of the weekend.

    Can't see anything wrong with your reasoning above but not able to give it much thought atm.

    Yes numbers other than perfect squares can have odd number of factors, not sure if there'e any more rules I can think of relating to that but will give it some thought when I'm not rushig around. The rule is useful when you know one of a set of numbers is a perfect square as in the problem you set but can't think of anything off-hand that makes it really useful the other way around if you see what I mean.

    Promise to think some more after the weekend.

    OK I was thinking while doing my hair. Female multitasking lol.

    Here's some more Unky:

    Take the last digit, double it, and subtract it from the rest of the number;
    if the answer is divisible by 7 then the number is also.

    e.g.. Take 1491. 1x2 = 2. 149-2 = 147 147/7 = 21 so we know 1491 divides by 7. (1491/7 = 213).

    It the last 3 digits of a number divide by 8 then the whole number divides by 8.

    Ok really got to run, see you next week with more if I can.

    She is not a happy camper and defending her territory. I would never want to be on the bad side of a cat who was not a happy camper, for sure ! I only wish Pickle would stand up to Brook that way, but Pickle does seem to get her teasing in, like, nananananana catch me if you can !
