Series EE bonds purchased prior to May 2005 have their interest rate reset every 6 months. EE bonds bought on or after May 1, 2005 have a set interest rate that doesn't change after purchase. Series I Bonds have an interest rate that is a combination of a fixed rate (set at time of purchase) and a variable rate (based on the inflation rate) - that variable portion is reset every 6 months.
