The electric co is stating that a downed tree limb that occurred around the corner and up a hill on the opposite side of the street has caused a broken neutral to our home. (It by passed all of the other homes leading up to ours.) The insurance company will only cover certain items considered building items, ex: central air, oven range, electrician's diagnostic evaluation, but we are left to cover the remaining household items includinf Xbox 360 cordless phones, etc. the Xbox and a stereo were connected to a surge protector and they still got fried. Do you think the electric co is being up front with us or is it possible it was causwed by their wiring failing. Our house was builot in 1950 we have livede here for 25 yrs. Electric co has never inspected or repaired any wires that come into our house.

It would likely have affected your neighbors houses as well. If you look up and down your street, you will see a transformer connected to the Upper high voltage lines, coming out of that it will send secondary power(240 volts) onto the lower lines, each may feed 6-8(more or less houses). An Electrician or power company should be able to point out and describe.
