    Property Taxes
If someone pays your non-delinquent Texas property taxes in December before you have paid them, do they have any claim to your property?

No. It seems strange that someone would do so on your behalf... but they might be able to place a lien on your property, depending on the nature of why they did so.

Thank you for the quick response. The unimproved property is part of an estate that has not been settled and the payor is an adult child of the deceased co-owner of the property. The surviving owner (spouse) of the property and the payor are not in a good relationship.

    You are welcome.

The estate kind of puts a kink in things, hopefully there is a will that lays it all out in very clear terms. Otherwise it could get a little messy. Hopefully the surviving owner and the deceased were married, makes it much more clear if it goes into any legal battle.

Only when the tax authority decides and posts the property for sale and sales the property at tax auction will someone have a claim by paying the taxes.

The estate should have paid the taxes, he can expect to be repaid for his payment by the estate
