Automatic plumbing vent
My kitchen sink does not have a vent and it gurgles every time I drain it. I would like to install an automatic vent. My trap is in the basement. What is an allowable distance ahead of the trap to install this and still be effective?

Hi Muisedj... If you want to create the best scenario bring the PTRAP and the AAV (air admittance valve) up and into the cabinet. This will help to create a turbulent/self-scouring effect on the pipes that will speed the flow of water into the drain pipes and help assure that the pipes stay clear for years! The AAV would be installed AFTER the trap... see images. Otherwise, you will install the AAV downstream of the trap in the basement within about a foot or two of the trap. Be sure to extend the AAV so it is at least 6" above the PTRAP in the basement. Any questions just post a reply in the box at the very bottom of the page... ;) Mark PS: The image below says 4"(10cm) minimum above the trap...stick with 6" as this is code most places. |

1)Combination waste and vent has a vent pipe which runs horizontal for 15ft and than rise up through roof. UPC does not have any paragraphs to object this. Does anybody know what the risks are. THis is a system serving to one floor sink only with 2" tail pipe and 3" waste line.
While trying to run a snake down the roof vent, the darn thing came completely out of the spindle and the snake fell down the vent. Now I have 14' of snake down the darn vent and can't see the free end. Is there some obvious tool I can find or rent that will allow me to fish the thing out? ...
