    88 civic not starting
I have an 88 honda civic. When I try to start the car it turns but won't start. I checked to see if it was getting fuel to the throtle body it is but thought it was flooding. So I clamped off the fuel line but it still is not starting. I checked to see if the spark plugs were firing but they were not. I have read all the other topics that have this same problem and came up with that the igniter unit or the ignition coil is bad. I called autoparts stores like autozone and pepboys and they don't know what I am talking about when I ask about the igniter unit. Is there anyway to get around this just to see if this is the problem or not. Or is there something else that could be causing it not to fire. I have a 92 honda civic will that work for these parts. Any help would be great. Thank u

Read Sections A and B in the link below--it should get you looking in the right direction:

If you answer "Yes" to the 3 basic diagnostic questions, focus on the igniter and coil. Because of the age of the vehicle, both should really be replaced. Look at RockAuto.com for decent prices.

Check the coil to see if there is juice coming out of it. If you have no juice check the coil wiring and check for cracks or breaks. Make sure the wiring is secure and tight. If everything checcks out and still has no juice then buy a coil.
