Where is the hum coming from? Is it coming from the water valve? This will be where the hoses connect. Most rinse cycles use cold water only. There could be a problem with the cold water supply or the water valve itself "IF" the hum is coming form the valve.

I have an Hot Point washer, like 1980ish. Anyway, my washer wouldn't go into rinse. I checked the cold water handle, and sure enough, someone had turned it wayyyy down. I adjusted it and its working fine now...

The tub on my kenmore elite HE3 will not spin for the wash, rinse or spin cycles. The motor is making the usual sounds like it's supposed to but the tub just does not budge.
