    Taxes: Moving
I have two questions I was wondering if someone could help me with. This year I moved from one state to another (Ohio to Michigan) at the beginning of September. When I do my income taxes, do I request all my money back from Ohio and then pay Michigan? Or do I end up paying a percentage to each state?

The second question is along the lines of the first. I also worked in 5 states (New Jersey, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin) and will be receiving a W2 from each. Illinois has an agreement with Michigan so that Michigan residents working in Illinois still pay Michigan income tax. However, Ohio doesn't have a similar agreement. I've worked in Illinois as an Ohio and a Michigan resident in 2006. So do I request the funds back from Illinois and pay Michigan? Or do I pay Illinois based on a percentage of the time I was living in Ohio vs. living in Michigan during my project work in Illinois?

I'm not looking forward to doing taxes this year...

    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Ryan:

You will have to file FIVE state tax returns and pro-rate the amount of work in each. Your home state will tax you for ALL the money earned for the dates Michigan and Ohio were your home state, then give you a credit for the state income you paid the other states.
