    Dog pooing intestine
My dog did a poo yesterday and it looked like it was contained in a white-ish coloured sack. He was sick last night too. What is it? He is OK in himself. I've taken his food off him but left his water.

The whitish material you saw when he did his business was mucus. No big deal. No need to take his food away. You don't withhold food. Dogs won't eat if they are not feeling well anyway. Dry dog food would be okay to put down, he will ignore it if he needs to.

What do you mean "he was sick last night too"? Do you mean he vomited? If he vomited or appeared very listless after he "did a poo" that looks strange to you, and he doesn't appear to be any better this morning, call your vet and get him in for an exam. Bring the "poo" with you. Although I am not disagreeing with tick, if your dog is not his usual self there is always the possibility that your dog ate something he shouldn't have.

    any ideas??? thank you.

    Hello,
In the summer months it's always best to worm monthly. What are you using now for a flea treatment? I like a product called Revolution. It kills all 3 stages if fleas and will kill worms and ticks. You need to get it from your vet, but it is fairly in expensive. Are you using a heart worm medication as well?

Another thing that can cause mucos in stools is colitis. While it is not normal to have mucosy stools, it's not uncommon for them to happen every now and again. Since you have starved him for 24 hours, I would re introduce a boiled rice and hamburger with some kibble, but only feeding small amounts. Make sure he has free access to fresh water at all times, and if the stools and vomiting continue it's time to seek a vet.

Some other reasons could be a bowel obstruction, IBS or even ulcers.

    Hope this helped!

    Bella
