Well I made the stupid mistake, mainly out of boredom, to dye my healthy, shiny natural medium brown hair bright red! I did it myself and the roots turned orange but the rest stayed browny/orange. I had a job interview so had to do something quick, so dyed it with a semi-permanent mahogany. The roots stayed a brighter red than the rest but it wasn't too bad.

So THEN I went to the hairdresser (which is what I shouldve done in the first place!) and decided to attempt the bright red again. The stylist had to bleach all the colour out first, then dyed it a gorgeous bright/copper red. I loved it at first and would love to keep it, but my hair grows so fast and the colour has faded to a horrible wishy/washy patchy orange after only 3 weeks!

SO now I have orangey hair with my natural brown roots coming through. I want to keep the red, so if I dye it a medium brown, I'm presuming it will go a red/brown which I wouldn't mind. Now that I have roots though, will a brown colour dye it evenly or will my roots go a different colour?

Or would a mahogany colour look best?

Im basically asking, what colour can I dye it that won't look awful as it fades and that I won't have any disasters at home with!

Depends on your natural haircolor and the undertone is it golden/reddish or ashy?a deep mahogeny brown would definitely cover it up give you a deep rich chocolate color with red tones in the sun.make sure to only use developer 10 so its deposits only!And it shouldn't lift at the roots.if you use 20 it will definitely give you hot roots.best of luck_hvs
