Pipe vibrating/banging noise, apparently not water hammer...
Apparently this isn't water hammer since it's not occurring when I turn things off, but rather ON... Anytime I flush the toilet or turn on the shower, or any faucet, or the washing machine, it makes a vibrating/banging noise for a few seconds. This just started happening. And would love to stop it! The noise is louder if standing near the water heater so it appears to be originating close to that area. The only things we've done recently were install new shower nozzles and we did have a roofer messing with one of the plumbing vents on the roof in the kitchen (He just shook it a little to show us that it was loose). Could either of those have caused it or any ideas how we can fix this? Thank you!

Put your hand on your water meter or the inside shut off valve. Have someone run water, do you feel the vibration here even more?

Thank you for the reply. The current answer to that is no, only because it stopped doing it. It had been doing it for about 2 weeks and then one day, everything was back to normal. No more hammer noise!

The pipes in my house bang right after the toilet has been flushed or the dishwashe ran. They typically bang every 20-30 seconds for several minutes then stop - sometimes longer and some times more often. I've turned off the water coming into the house and bleed out all the sink faucets and that...

When I get up in the morning, there is a vibrating noise from the pipe entering the house and going to water heater and the rest of the house. It's like a tapping. It happens for a few seconds, then stops, and then it happens again. I never hear it after I come home from work. There is a...

Pipe noise - not water hammer [ 1 Answers ]

Copper pipe "thump" noise occurs intermittently (approx. every 20 seconds) and diminishes after approx. 2 hours following shutoff of hot water tap in kitchen. The noise is not location specific and is loud for the first hour and a bit. The noise resembles the sound you hear when pipes are...

Water hammer/pipes vibrating [ 8 Answers ]

Recently I had a small opening made on the wall connecting my kitchen and dining area. There were two pipes, one vent and the other carrying water which were both cut ( initially they were going straight up) and they were re-routed to allow for the small opening. One week after that I have been...

Pipe banging other than water hammer? [ 3 Answers ]

Hi there, Recently the pipes in our house have started banging. My initial thoughts were loosely hanging pipes or water hammer. I secured the pipes better/tighter with hangers, but the problem continues. Water hammer would be a possible idea, except it only seems to happen from the toilet pipes...
