What is the best (or at least a very good) brand of cutlery?
We need new kitchen cutlery. A friend is going to give me the Cutco presentation. I've purchased expensive knives before and found them not much better than the stuff I can get at WalMart.

Is Cutco really worth the price? Any other brand name suggestions?

This nixes the Cutco demo: Cutco Cutlery Knives | Kitchen Knife Review

You wan't a knife with high carbon content. i.e. One that will rust. They are sharp as can be and will hold an edge seemingly forever.

I've got one like that and I have no idea how old it is.

I agree with KISS, if it ain't steel DON'T touch it.
(ok there are some great titanium knives but they cost a fortune)
How about the makers of the Swiss Army Knife: Victorinox Swiss Army

I've had a couple of their knives for years and they keep an excellent edge and are a pleasure to use.

Of course there's always the pro equipment, at least in the UK, of Sabatier ( Sabatier knife - sabatier knives - professional knife - kitchen knife - traditional knife - Sabatier : The cook's diamond )

    Hi, RickJ!

My daughter swears by Chicago Cutlery. Wusthof would also appear to be right up there as far as quality is concerned.

    Thanks!

Anyone whose business model includes doing a home demo is off my list of vendors. I know I'll either be seriously overpaying or some strong upsell is in the plans.

I love to cook though I do less complicated stuff now that the kids are quite active as am I. I have always gotten by on decent knifes/cutlery sets from stores like Sears, Costco, etc. well maybe not WalMart. :) Unless you're taking up the culinary arts it's wasted money. Spend it on good fresh ingredients.

I have Chicago Cutlery and absolutely LOVE it!

Don't put it in the dishwasher though. Needs to be handwashed.

I use Faberware cutlery and it works fine for me. I do hand wash it though.
