Sears Garage Door Opener
Hi,
I have a Sears Model 139.53403 1/3 HP Chain Drive Garage door opener. This has small dip switches to change the code with.
Does anyone know the year this was produced?
I'd like to add "Safety Beams" to the opener. I've seen them for models built between 1984 and 2001 (Sears)
Does anyone know if this model will operate with Beams?
Thanks

Pattg2,
What I wondering is can I ADD
The safety lights to this opener, and the year it was built?
Thanks for your answer.

If the back of the opener has 2 empty screw slots above the up and down asjustments then I don't see why not.

Those beams are a safety device that reverses the motor function if the beam is broken. I have never seen an opener that could be retrofitted with a beam when it was not designed to employ one. If you tried to install a new one without the beam it will not work at all.

Hi,
There are two empty screws on the rear of the unit.
That's one reason I believe I can add beams.
Also, a company on the web sells beams that fit ALL sears openers
Made between 1984 and 2001
Also, a different set of beams that start at 2002 and up
Thanks again

Go for it and let us know how it works for you. Can you share that companies web address. I'd be interested in reading their info.

Hi,
Here's the site for the beams I mentioned.
One correction, these are Sears from 1984 to 2002 not 2001 as I stated.

I have a feeling it will work. I think the sensors were an option at one time since it had the automatic up if something got hit. Why else for the 2 empty screws?
Good luck and let us know if it works!

Hi,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
Tried the new safety beams and NO GO. They light but don't reverse the door.
Looks like I'll be sending them back.
Thanks again

Hi,
You're welcome. I too thought it would work. Why have two extra screws on the case if not for this.
Sears manual lists Safety lights as an option for this opener.
Too bad, this opener is used in one of our rental properties and would be nice to have them.
I'll keep at it and if I "Get It" I'll let you know
Thanks
Bob

I have a sears garage door opener. When it gets cold, the door will not close unless I hold the wall switch down until it closes to the ground. When the weather gets above 40 degrees, then it works fine. Any idea on what is causing this? I have tried to adjust the opener but it doesn't help.

I have a garage door opener that I purchased from Sears less than 2 years ago and I took out the extra warranty.. DO the warranty usually cover the breakage of the spring on the door itself? If not is it a easy job one could do himself? Or is something a professional should do?
Thanks
