Puppy thinks she is supposed to go potty in her crate.
Just brought home a wonderful 10 weeks old pug puppy. The breeder I bought her from had her and her litter mates in a large crate/kennel. When I asked her if she had started to potty train, she said that they know they have to go potty in one end and sleep in the other. My problem is that she is pooping in her crate overnight. She also goes into the room in my home with the crate in it when she has to go potty. I think she believes this is the expected behavior. I have been able to get to her before she goes all but once. I did as one of the other answers regarding potty training suggested. I picked her up midpee and told her NO, and ran her outside. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I hope you get a similar answer.

Feed earlier and take away water during the night. Take her for a walk probably about an hour after eating. Give her a treat when she goes potty outside.

If her breeder let her use the bathroom in one end and sleep in the other end of the crate (which is gross and has me wondering on her methods), than she does think it's acceptable behavior. So you have to go back to basics. Every time she eats, drinks or gets a treat, she goes right out side until she does her business. Once she does her thing, praise and treat like mad. Just small treats, remember treats can even be a few kibbles of her dog food.

How big is the crate that you have now? If it is a larger crate, you can try blocking it off so she only has enough room to turn around and lay down.

Also, like KISS suggested, feed earlier and more potty breaks. You may have to stay out there with her for the entire time.
