I had my third appointment last week with my neurologist who also happens to be a board certified psychiatrist. He has only provided neurological care so far, but on my last visit I became emotionally upset when talking to him about having to file for divorce. He came over to the table with tissues and gave me nice, big, fat, long, tight hug. He then went behind me, moved my hair to the side and began rubbing my back and shoulders. I was incredibly turned on by this. He sat back down and began writing his notes, but before he left the room he came back over and gave me another nice, big, fat, long, tight hug. I broke from the hug first but he didn't let go right away. I felt something strange between us. My doc confided in me that he just went through a divorce too. We are the same age, 40, he's not a huge hunk or anything, but not bad looking. He told me he knew I liked him. I was speechless. So far no lines have been crossed, as far as I'm concerned, but I was wondering if it so terribly wrong for me to wish they could be? I know doctors are not allowed to date their current patients. Is it normal to feel this way? Could I be letting my mind wander just a little too far?

Your mind is wandering and his hands are wandering. Explain to him that you feel his attentions are on the verge of impropriety and then find another doctor.

This situation could lead to some disastrous consequences.

I actually felt that the doctor's gestures were innocent, it was I who let my mind wander. My husband and I, although still living together, are not romantically involved anymore. I guess it was just so nice to be touched again that it didn't occur to me to mind. I was crying when the doctor came up to me to console me. I don't think what he did was any different than anyone else would do in the same situation if someone were crying. It just so happens that we are doctor and patient. Does that in itself make it wrong?

Do mean the consequences could be disastrous for me or the doctor?
