Twins? Or am I crazy?
I am 22 and married and I found out that I was pregnant with an at home pregnancy test 1 week before my period was due. I went that night to the ER and got a blood test to make sure. The next day I got a call that I was only 3-4 days along and my hormone level was 20. They wanted me to go back in 5 days they did another blood test. My hormone level was 378. They said that it was very high and that I needed to go to an O/B when I had a chance. Well I have a doctor and I go on the 23rd to listen to the heartbeat. I'm now 7weeks along and my belly is pretty big but the rest of me is not. I have had intense emotions and symptoms. Twins only run on his side of the family, not mine. My mom took one look at me and said "oh it's twins". I would really like someone's advice on the possibility of twins. Thanks!

Don't worry, no ones ignoring you, haha, everyone just gets on at different times of the day, or several days apart. And no you aren't crazy. I think every woman wonders if she is having twins at one point or another in her pregnancy. As far the chances of twins, it sounds like it could be a big possibility from the hormone levels. And if you are getting big already, that could also point to it. However, you could just be farther along then everyone thinks. There are a few ladies on this site who have had twins (Myth for one) who might be able to give you better advice. I hope all goes well, and congrats!

No worries hun. I am in my 21st week of pregnancy, and I have to admit that I was starting to wonder too. In my first pregnancy they told me I might have twins or be farther along then I thought(I knew I wasn't farther along, my periods were very predictable.) so they did an ultrasound, and it was neither. Hahha. I was just going to have a big baby. Haha. This time around I started showing earlier, but that was because my muslces were already more stretched out from my first pregnancy. Sometimes women just show earlier then others. Anyway, just drop me a line if you ever want to preggy chat hahhaha. We'll ttyl hope that I helped.

Twins don't run in my family that I know of either. Have you felt a fluttering yet? Has your dr told you your measuring larger than a woman normally would for your dates? I found out at 12 weeks that I was having twins... If your having twins remember if their identical then it won't run in a family it is just a fluke of nature. A wonder loving fluke. Twins aren't much harder than a single child is believe it or not. Do you have any other children? Cause if not it's going to be really hard. The first child is always the hardest in my opinion. If you need any advice remember that we're here for you. Let us know what happens with the dr.

This will be my first child. I haven't been measured by the docotr yet because my doctor won't see people until they are at least 10 weeks along. I go to see him in 2 and a half weeks to have my first full check up and to listen to the heart beat. I was told how far along I am due to a blood test 5 weeks ago... they don't get the time wrong when they do it that way, right? Cause maybe I'm just further along then they thought?

I don't know for sure on this, but according to some of the searching I've done online, I have gotten the idea that the blood test gives you the levels of hormone, and if its higher then it should be according to your perceived lmp, then you are possibly farther along then you think. But that it can't giev you an exact date, just within a few weeks or something like that. But like I said, I don't know much about blood tests, and this is just an opinion from net searching. I am sure others could probably tell you more.sorry I wasn't more help

Calculating due dates is done by using your period.
It is calculated from the first day of your last period. Since the exact date of conception is almost never known, the first day of the last period is used to measure how old the fetus is.
Based on your last period, the estimated due date is 40 weeks from the first day of the period. This is just an estimate since only about 5% of babies are born on their estimated due date.
Next the due date will be calculated by measurement and/or ultrasound at your doctor's office. This is used more for women who do not have regular periods.

Are you taking prenatal pills? If not you really need to be. I would be looking for another dr too... but that's just me... if my dr didn't see me by the eight week mark and is to busy to see me to the ten week mark then he's to busy to give me the time and energy I need. I don't know about anyone else on this site but that would be my main concern right now. I am high maintenance when I'm preggy and with twins it was even worse. Keep us posted hun and I'm crossing my fingers that its not twins the first time around.

Well of course we care. We've all got to have someone to talk to and it would be nice to have someone around here other than myself with twins under the age of five... three... one even:D

Well, I went to the doctor yesterday... but no update on if it's twins or not. All he did was blood test and ask tons of questions. He doesn't do a sonagram until 5 months, so in about 2 months I will know how far along I am, and if it's 1 or 2 babies. :(

Hmmm. Did you ask him what he thought about whether he thought it was twins or not? Sounds kind of like he is unsure about the whole thing? Seems like he would have been able to find out and let you know... (atleast I am guessing so, since myth found out at like 12 weeks... )Sorry you don't know more about this then you did before! Ever think about maybe trying for a second opinion?

I thought about it, but my friend was delivered by him, and all three of her kids were brought into the world by him as well. He was really nice, and saw that my insurance will only cover 1 sonagram, so he's going to do it when the baby is big enough for him to check it out and also see what the sex is. He is going to listen to the heartbeat in 2 weeks to make me feel better. :)
