Dead tree on/near property line--each neighbor thinks the dead tree is on the other's property-----township wants the tree to be removed---who is responsible for a survey---if the tree is on both sides --is the cost of tree removal proportional to the amount of tree on each side 90-10 60-40 ? Thanks

Lets stop for a moment and ask this question, why does the township want the tree removed? If any part of the dead tree ios reaching over onto township property then they own a piece of the eventual bill. When a tree is near a property line you only own the parts of the tree on your side of the line. If a branch snaps off your tree in a storm and flys through the air crossing a property line and smashes into your neighbors garage guess who pays, the neighbor.

If both sides can't agree to split the costs of a survey, then one will have to break down and do it.
