Child negligence - left home alone
    Hello Friends,

My name is Tom. I am a father of a 10 year-old girl and a 5 year-old boy. My children live in 2 separate households. One week with their mother and one week with me.

For the past 3 years, their mother continues to leave the children home alone. It got worse as she contiunes to leave them home alone, not only that she has left them home for the entire day, went to work, but she has left them home alone from 2 PM through the next morning.

As a concerned parent, I called and reported my concern to the Police and here's what I was told. "there's no age range" at all, as long as your daughter is capable taking care of herself and her yournger brother, they are fine!

A year ago, I had reported this issue to the Social Services. Their process is for them to come out unexpectly to my daughter school, introduced themselves to my daughter and asked if their mother has been leaving them home alone?? My daughter at that time had no idea whom or what Soceial Services really is, she was so afraid that her mother would get in some kind of trouble and had denied all incidents.

A month later, I went and meet with the mediator and found that the report from Social Services was obtained and turned the whole situation around. Called me the person whom is making up the whole story, making troubles for the hard working mother, etc, etc.
It was a misfortune for me and my children that I ran into a mediator named Dr. Nancy Young. She attacked me loudly and made me feel that I was a liar, would listen to my feedback or input at all.

I left that day, felt humuliated, discriminated against and couldn't sleep or eat right for many months. I found that not only she is unprofessional, but a total bias as well.

I am seeking for some guidelines and hope that my children will be save and out of this situation soon.

Hey, I caught your qestion on the first page. When I used to live in Michigan I used to hear about good times from ADAM a group of lawyers that specialize in representing men in the legal system. They are based in Michigan and I'm not sure if your there but even if your in one of the other 49 or Ontario perhaps you could give them a call and they might be able to refer you to an attorney or group in your area. Their website is Home

Sorry I tried to link it but it wouldn't come through in the post

    Good luck

Take 3 Okay now it sort of comes through, I don't know what's going on with that link.

You might want to report it to Social Services again. Explain to them that you feel that Dr. Young did not do a thorough job investigating the report and ask that it be assigned to someone else. Also, have you reported this to your childrens' school? It may be a good idea to do so and explain to them the progress (or lack thereof) that you've made with Social Services thus far. Sometimes Social Services takes reports from schools more seriously then they do reports from "disgruntled" parents.
