I know, I was a officer for many years, only worked the streets and traffic for a few, but in the rush and sometimes excitement esp at wrecks we would put birthdates down for car years and all sorts of things, we would get chewed out by our capt and often make edits to them before they went into the courts even ( on things allowed) But I got a speech from a judge once but never a ticket thrown out.
They reason they went with reckless driving is that you can write that ticket ( depends on your state) on private property, other things like speeding, improper turns and the such don't apply.
He ( or you) could speak before court to who ever does the prosecution, it could be the officer or a DA, and see if they would reduce it for a guilty plea. Also see if the judge would allow a suspended sentence if he does some community service or a traffic school,
