Is it acceptable for us to pray Janazah in absentia upon a person?
As-Salamu `alaykum. We often hear of the death of someone who lives in another country and we are asked to pray Janazah (funeral prayer) in absentia, seeking the reward of Allah. This used to occur frequently until some brothers objected to this practice, stating that the deceased had been prayed upon in his country and that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) did not pray twice upon a dead person. Is it acceptable for us to pray Janazah in absentia upon a person who was prayed upon in his own country? Jazakum Allah khayran.
