    Dear Dr. Naik,

    Assalamu-alaikum.

I have a question regarding divorce procedure in Islam.

According to Islam can a woman divorce her husband? I live in Bangladesh, according to the law of the land (as for as I undestand) being a Bangladeshi woman, I have the right to divorce my husband.

But I would like to hear from you, what is the right procedure of divorce in Islam as I don't want to by far the Islamic Shariah law.

I went to a Qazi office in Dhaka, Bangladesh, they advised me that I can divorce my husband and the procedure is as follows:

1.On a stamp paper Quazi Office drafts a divorce notice to be sent to my husband; it should be vetted by a notary public.
    2. I sign on it and send three such notices to my husband with a copy to family court in consecutive there months.
    3. The family court sends out three letter of notififications to me and my husband to allow us the chance to reconcile in front of the juries, in the family court.
    4. Even after theree notices, if no one shows up in front of the court, the case get dismissed and the court announces the completion of the divorce case.
    5. I take the vertict of the court to Quazi office and the quazi office gives me the Talaq nama.

I have followed the steps up to number 4 and now my husband has come up saying that he wants to return to home ( to me and the children) and also claims that our divorce has not been completed according to Islamic Shariah and according to Islam, I can't divorce him being a woman.

In these circumstances, I need your advice regarding the right procedure of divorce according to Islam. And my other question is, do we still have any chance to reunite?

For both of us, if it is permissible according to Islam and my divorce procedure was faulty and it has not been completed, we may reconsider to reunite.

Would very much appreciate your reply on this.
