Should I go to the doctor if I have heartburn everyday?
I have had heartburn almost every day(well, mostly at night) since I was 17. (I am now 21.) I have been trying to avoid the foods that are known to cause heartburn and I also try not to eat a couple hours before I go to sleep, but that doesn't always work. I have tried all different type of over the counter drugs to ease it, but it seems that I have grown an immunity to them or it takes a really high dose to help. I am currently uninsured so a doctor visit would be a bit pricey for me. I don't make much money, but I don't qualify for aid. Would it be worth it to see a doctor? Is it worth the money?
Or will they just tell me what I already know or prescribe me something that I will just grow an immunity to?

YES. Go to the doctor, this isn't normal. Not to scare you, but this is how my Dad died. He had heartburn which turned into acid reflux and that ate away his esphoagus and he got espagus cancer and died at 30. Please go see the doctor. There are drugs that can work for you before it gets too out of hand. It could be a number of things though, even a food allergy. Go see a doctor, please.

Yes, you should. This could be chronic GERD which can destroy your esophagus. You need to get this properly diagnosed.

Just to let you know the an undiagnosed Severe reflux, GERD not only can destroy your esophagus as J9 stated but it also puts you at a higher risk for cancer.

See if you live off tums or any over counter medications that do not work then you will need a maintenance drug therapy plan or depending on what it may be even surgery.

So you defiantly have to see a doctor. State when it started. How often your taking over the counter, how there is not relief and you have already taking steps to alleviate the symptoms on your own.

Do not mess with this okay. Please come back and let us know how things are going. I am not telling you all this to scare you but for you to be aware of what are the possibilities and ways of getting it under control.
