    Insurance for EX after divorce
We have just received our divorce nici. There have been some major changes in health insurance options for both of us and it now makes more sense financially and for coverage and access to our current providers to have me, the former wife, cover our 2 kids and my ex-husband. My employer only offers an individual and family plan, so just insuring the kids under me and him covering himself is way too expensive. We live in Massachusetts and my employer said the only way to include my ex-husband in the family plan is to have it in the divorce decree that I must cover him. Is this true and if so, can we make this change before divorce absolute in an easy and cost effective manner?

This is a legal question and should be moved to the legal board.

Yes, what your Attorney has told you is correct. If your Decree has not been filed there is time to modify it. (I'm surprised your Attorney didn't catch this problem.)

HOWEVER - your insurance carrier is not bound by your divorce decree. If the company will not insure an "ex" you will have to carry separate insurance.

Not sure why you are being so nice, but no you don't want to be required by court order to cover your EX for insurnce.

First if you lost your job, you would still have to buy and pay for private insurance on him, hard to change it a few years down the road.

Next if he gets re-married. Sorry but let the ex find his own insurance.

But your attorney is correct, without it being in the court order, the insurance WILL NOT cover him, and even then the policy may not cover him as a ex, and you may still have to purchase a separate plan, I would get it in writing that the insurance will cover the ex if court ordered.
