Windows XP installation Stops at same spot
I'm trying to install Windows XP Home Edition SP2 on a home built machine. During the installation, right after it formats the drive and starts copying files, it stops at the same file every time. It errors out trying to copy the same file every time and with several different cd's. I've even tried XP Pro CD's and they didn't work. I also tried a brand new hard drive and a brand new IDE cable. I am using an ASUS P4S800-MX motherboard. The computer recently was shut off unexpectedly and then just started rebooting over and over and it would never load the OS. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Basically it stops at loading an audio system file. I don't know the exact filename. But no matter what CD I use, it stops copying files.

With this mobo you need to make sure you have the latest bios version. Check Asus website for the latest. They also have instruction for updating.
Good Luck

I had a similar problem to what you had, and found out it was my RAM causing this issue. I replaced the ram, and now it works fine.

It was the RAM on my machine as well. Thanks for the posts. It's now working great with the new RAM.

I had the same problem, but I found the answer, if you skip that file and wait till the computer loads up, go into Control Pannel> Administrative Tools> Computer Management> Device Manager and you'll see, a device named (something) Contoller where that "something" is search for it on Google with the word driver after it. i.e IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, IF that was it then you'd search "IDE ATA/ATAPI driver" then use common sense to download the right driver. I can't tell you the exact one to download because I don't have an ASUS motherbored... If you are confused, then tell me, I'll try explaining it more :-)
Tell me how it goes please :)

Spot on tongue

My son is 6 months old and has had a spot on the top part of his tongue for about a week now. It was pretty small but is now about half the size of a dime. He has new teeth coming in on the top but the spot seems too far back and too far to the right for him to have made it from him biting himself....

Windows XP update failures after Service Pack 2 installation
[ 2 Answers ]
Since installing XP Service Pack 2, the few updates that have occurred subsequently have all failed to install after downloading. Downloading seems to reach 95% completion normally and then slows right down. 'failed' then appears against the update name.
